Ah my first puzzle project…The Madness From the Sea was – like Cthulhu himself – probably too big for its own good. The truth is that I really just can’t help myself. I suppose you could say that I have a soft spot for overwrought, unwieldy abominations, regardless of their nature.

Since it’s been a few years, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the project if for no other reason than to laugh at my dumb luck in somehow creating an ostensibly compelling experience despite having zero experience.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be posting my thoughts on the design process I used in bringing The Madness From the Sea to life. And by “design process”, I mean completely random guesswork that seemed to work out in the end. I’ll be giving a detailed description of each of the game’s fifteen puzzles (or “mysteries”, as I called them).

So stay tuned.
